BRINGING THE LITTLE MERMAID TO LIFE

It would have thrilled Hans Christian Andersen to discover that his little Danish fairytale, first published in April 1837, would have such a long and productive life.

As with many an ancient fairytale, it was Disney who brought The Little Mermaid to a whole new generation, with their 1989 big-screen adaptation. It was a film that not only brought Andersen’s Ariel back to life, but also the Disney studio itself, after a series of flops.

And now this much-loved tale about the young mermaid who falls in love with a prince on the other side of the water is coming to, fittingly enough, a little seaside town on the east coast of Ireland.

And who better to present such a magical tale than the young students of The Wicklow School of Music & Drama? Their love and enthusiasm for the source material, and performing, promises to make these two shows something very special indeed…
