Tango, Jazz and Swing with the Degani Ensemble

The Degani Ensemble was first formed by Alan Smale and Ruby Ashley in the 1980’s to perform and record a wide range of chamber music for strings and oboe. The ensemble presents an eclectic mixture of popular 20th century music by Cole Porter, Scott Joplin, George Gershwin and others in special arrangements. The main work is the unforgettable ‘Four Seasons of Buenos Aires’ for piano trio by the Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla.

Alan was a former Leader of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and was awarded the title ‘Leader Emeritus. Alan was also Leader to The Irish Film Orchestra from 1993 to 2014, and is a guest leader of the Ulster Orchestra.

We are grateful to Clare Cherry Kinito of DoMiSo Music School for introducing the group to us.
