Adjacent Meridian Point,
Multi-award winning theatre company Rise Productions returns with a brand new play from acclaimed writer Gary Duggan.Directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks, Spotless is part drama, part thriller, with a healthy dose of black humour thrown in too. It tells the story of two very different women who’s lives become intertwined when they both find themselves (unknowingly to each other) in a relationship with the same mysterious young man.
Fortyish Genevieve has had to downsize from an affluent suburb, and is struggling to get to grips with life in her new home, backing onto a grim block of flats.
Jenny, an inhabitant of those flats, is looking for a way out, but doubts her chances of finding it from her upcoming Leaving Cert exams.
Genevieve is clinging to her final chance at having children, while Jenny is doing her best to avoid any distraction and unwanted attention from the opposite sex. Both of their paths intersect in the shape of Dean, an attractive but unreliable local lad that neither can ever fully be sure of.
So begins a darkly humorous and disturbing suburban thriller. Neither woman’s life will ever be the same again.
The play stars two of Ireland’s well-known and talented actors – Cork actress Emma Willis who burst onto the TV screen with BBC hit drama YOUNG OFFENDERS and RTE’s hit telly shows CAN’T COPE WON’T COPE and NOWHERE FAST. She has become a big young star amongst the younger telly audience and is certainly one to watch as she goes from one hot TV show to the next.
Emma will share the stage with young fellow actor in Ciara O’Callaghan – Ciara, as you may well know is very well known her her Fair City role as Yvonne Doyle. Yvonne was loved and hated by viewers of the long running RTE soap drama, where she played one of the more extreme characters on the show and the writer Gary Duggan’s favourite to write her character.
This is Duggan’s second time working with theatre director Aoife Spillane-Hinks. Aoife brilliantly directed a previous play of his, RUN / DON’T RUN, and he is very excited about collaborating again. He has developed this script for two years through a number of workshops. Producer, Aonghus Og McAnally acted in RUN / DON’T RUN and he’s been in awe of his skills on and off the stage for ages. The national tour of SPOTLESS follows a pattern Aonghus has established with several successful productions for his company Rise Productions, including FIGHT NIGHT, THE GAMES PEOPLE PLAY and THE GOOD FATHER.
