Adjacent Meridian Point,
When John Connors delivered the speech that stole the IFTAs this year, we knew instantly that this was the perfect man to launch our new series, My Favourite Things.
The idea is simple. A special guest reveals their favourite book, their favourite album and their favourite film, with that music playing as people arrive before a 20-minute interview discussing just why these choices are so special.
And then, not revealed until the night itself, we all sit back to enjoy our guest’s favourite film.
Having established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the hit TV series Love/Hate as well as such movies as King Of The Travellers, Monged and The Secret Scripture, Connors has upped his game in the past year, culminating in his Best Actor win at the recent IFTAs for 2017’s highest-grossing Irish film, Cardboard Gangsters.
Perhaps more importantly though, Connors has garnered huge praise for his championing of the underdog, and his frank and open discussions on mental health and suicide. Which is why he wants the money raised by this event to go to Pieta House.
The book is Frankie Gaffney’s Dublin Seven, the album, Almighty Love by Damien Dempsey. The film, as we said, will be revealed on this very special night.
