Greystones Film Club: TOY STORY 4

TOY STORY 4 (USA/G/100mins)

A film that is far, far greater than any sequel has a right to be – especially when you consider this is the fourth outing in a perfect trilogy – Toy Story 4 not only knocked ’em dead at the box-office this year, but it also bowled over the critics.

Which is really not what anyone was expecting, given that Pixar have had a few wobbly moments after their initially perfect, Beatles-esque run. Hands up who saw The Good Dinosaur, the 2015 Pixar flop that is destined to become a prize-winning question in pub quizes for future generations.

Here, director Josh Cooley makes the leap from shorts to a feature film that boasts no less than 10 writers (including ousted Pixar boss and founder, John Lasseter), and enough spot-on gags per minute to keep you smiling and laughing all the way up to the inevitable lump-in-the-throat finale. Oh, and being Pixar, they’re not scared about going dark occasionally too.

It’s a film with too many high points to list here but, Keanu Reeves is a wonder as deluded stuntman Duke Caboom and the comedy duo of Key and Peele have a ridiculous amount of fun as furry freak brothers Ducky and Bunny.

And to celebrate the wonder of both Toy Story and Halloween, we’re making this afternoon screening a Fancy Dress Party. Come as your favourite toy or movie icon, and you might just win a prize…

As usual, the €10 admission includes a free kids snackbox (fresh popcorn, sweets and a drink) or an adult popcorn. Just for that extra Buzz…
