Adjacent Meridian Point,
It might just be the greatest Halloween movie of all time, no matter what age you happen to be, writer/director Tim Burton tapping into his childhood obsession with all things spooky and nocturnal with this funny and ultimately heartwarming tale of ghoul meets girl whilst foolishly trying to bring some Christmas sparkle to Halloween Town.
Created by Burton but directed by Henry Selick (James & The Giant Peach), neither filmmakers never quite achieved this level of magic again, the stop-motion animation perfectly suited to a world populated by silly monsters and cuddly creeps.
A film that has spawned a stage musical, a Disney attraction and countless Halloween costumes, The Nightmare Before Christmas (USA/UK/12RA/86mins) might be just a tad scary for the very young, but a happy ending – and a huge amount of fun, and catchy songs – along the way make this a true delight for all ages.
And given that Halloween night awaits after the screening, fancy dress is pretty much compulsory. There’ll be prizes for the best costumes on the day!
