Greystones Film Club: The Camino Voyage

THE CAMINO VOYAGE (Ireland/PG/97mins)

What do you get if you put a poet, a painter, a trad player, a stonemason and an Oscar-winning singer/songwriter in a boat they built themselves, and send them across the Irish Sea, and on to Spain…?

You get The Camino Voyage, that’s what, a fascinating new documentary by Donal O’Ceilleachair that has already picked up festival awards in New York, Luxembourg, Dublin and, most importantly, Dingle.

The motley boat crew in question are Danny Sheehy, Liam Holden, Brendan Begley, Breandán Moriarty and, of course, Glen Hansard. The film has been described as a modern-day Celtic Odyssey, but, thankfully, it also looks like the lads had some great craic.

We’ll be able to find out just how much when the film screens as part of the Greystones Film Club’s New Cinema strand on Wednesday, March 13th, with, its hoped, the director in attendance to explain it all. And reveal what strange, Celtic shenanigans were a little too Celtic to make it to the big screen…
