Greystones Film Club: The Beasts

The Beasts (Spain/12A/137mins)

Earning 17 nominations at the 37th Goya Awards (and winning 9), The Beasts is what arthouse film is all about.

A dark, twisted tale all the more unsettling given that it’s based on real events involving a Dutch couple in Santoalla, The Beasts follows a French couple (played by Denis Ménochet and Marina Lois) as they settle into a small village to connect with nature and sell their eco-friendly crops. Only, some of the neighbours turn against them when the couple block the sale of land to a wind energy company, which would have brought some serious money into the village.

One of Spain’s biggest homegrown hits, and a critical fave, this is a film that needs to be seen on the big screen…
