Apocalypse Clown (Ireland/15A/102mins)
That rarest of beasts, an Irish film that’s intentionally funny and – yowsa! – a hit with de critics, Apocalypse Clown is the latest from the BAFTA-winning writer/director George Kane, who broke through by winning Best International Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh with Discoverable back in 2013, and who has been behind the camera for such TV hits as Timewasters, Brassic and Inside No. 9.
As the name might suggest, Apocalypse Clown follows three clowns dealing with the end of the world as we know it, a mysterious technological blackout forcing the washed-up circus trio to traverse the country in search of food and water. And fulfilling their dreams.
Just the sort of film to get you ready for Halloween, in other words. And Christmas.
