Georgia Cécile’s ascent in the jazz firmament has been meteoric.
The Glasgow born chanteuse exploded onto the UK jazz scene in 2021 with a startling debut – ‘Only the Lover Sings’ – for which she was named UK Jazz Act of the Year and Vocalist of the Year at the 2022 Jazz FM Awards.
Her debut album also ended that year topping the UK’s official charts in the jazz/blues category.
The granddaughter of a renowned Scottish jazz pianist, Georgia Cécile’s sound combines jazz, soul and R & B influences; the girl groups of the 60s and 70s being a particular touchstone. She perfectly mixes classic song-writing, contemporary production and modern jazz sensibility.
While her vocals are impeccable Georgia Cécile’s music is also a credit to her long term collaborator, pianist Euan Stevenson, and to a formidable line-up that includes top Scottish players Ryan Quigley (trumpet, flugelhorn), Andrew Robb (double bass) and Matt Clark (drums).
Championed since she first emerged by singing star Jamie Cullum, in a dizzying break-out year Cécile supported Gregory Porter on tour, performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra, and showcased at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Her shows with Porter included four sell-out nights at The Royal Albert Hall, after which she played a debut at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s venue that sold out rapidly.
“…beguiling. Cécile is the real deal.” – Jazzwise
