Eoghan O’Sullivan: Songs From The Bright Side

Whether singing his own crafted folk-pop songs or those of the songwriters who inspire him, Eoghan brings joy, humour and passion to every performance. He’s returning from his adopted home in Switzerland to the town where he grew up for this once-off concert to celebrate family, friendship and community.

For more than two decades he has entertained crowds around Europe and beyond: from Paris to Oslo, Berlin to Boston, he earned his stripes as a travelling troubadour. Even before that, he was a regular at the international busking festival in Youghal, where he was the overall winner in 1997.

As family life and his career in communications led him to settle down in Switzerland, following a music-filled stint in Amsterdam, he has continued to perform regularly around the Geneva region, in pubs, clubs and at festivals. One recent highlight was playing support to Luka Bloom when he visited Geneva.

Eoghan started composing his own material in his mid-20s, inspired by his travels and learning from his already extensive live experience. Always seeking a catchy chorus or a smart turn-of-phrase, he strives to write songs that can take their place alongside those covers he has been singing since he was a teenager and still loves to sing. With influences that take in The Beatles, Cat Stevens, Neil Finn, Damien Rice and Christy Moore (and the many songwriters whose work he has interpreted), Eoghan wraps stories from everyday life up in memorable melodies. He has even found success writing in French, with his song Moi Aussi now taught in classrooms around the French-speaking area of Switzerland. A song about inclusion, it was commissioned by a Swiss foundation of the same name that raises awareness about Down syndrome.

The proceeds from ticket sales for this event, after venue costs, will go to Jigsaw’s Wicklow Hub, which offers mental health advice and support to young people in the area.
