Adjacent Meridian Point,
Conor Guilfoyle continues his exploration of classic jazz from the 1950s with a night dedicated to the music of the great baritone player and arranger, Gerry Mulligan. The Conor Guilfoyle Octet has previously visited Mulligan when they toured the music from the Miles Davis “Birth of the cool” suite, much of which he had arranged as well as playing his classic “west coast” compositions.
This time the concert will be divided in two, opening with charts that were made famous by Mulligan and Chet Baker in a unique quartet without piano or guitar and followed by Octet charts, some which came directly from Mulligan himself, given to his friend Charles Meredith AKA Rock Fox in the 1960s and haven’t been performed here since.
The concert will feature the considerable talent of Baritone player Kelan Walsh who, as well as being a saxophone virtuoso has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Mulligan. The Octet has been playing together for 5 years, touring the classic jazz music of Mulligan, Miles Davis, Art Pepper, Dizzy Gillespie and many more throughout the country.
This is sure to be a fantastic night of classic jazz played by some of finest musicians in the country!
