Rachel Quinn, Piano

Rachel has performed numerous concertos in Ireland & the Czech Republic. She has appeared in recital programmes at arts centres throughout Ireland, and abroad in Japan, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Austria and Great Britain. In addition Rachel is a noted teacher, accompanist and repetiteur.

Alan Smale, Violin

Alan is founder and director of The Degani Ensemble and Leader of The Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra for the 2017/18 season. For 20 years till 2013 he was Leader of the RTE NSO, and for 10 years prior to that Leader of the RTECO. He is a guest leader of The Ulster Orchestra and a frequent concerto soloist.

Annette Cleary, Cello

Annette Cleary studied with Coral Bognuda, Ivan Andrews and Aisling Drury-Byrne at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and subsequently, as the recipient of scholarships, continued her studies in Austria (Mozarteum), Germany and the USA, numbering among her teachers Paul Tortelier, Antonio Janigro and Andre Navarra. Annette was a prizewinner at the Barchet International Cello Competition and from 1993 was prinicipal cellist with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company. She has performed as soloist with the NSO and acts as jury member for International Competitions. Annette teaches at the Royal Irish Academy of Music where she recently received her Doctorate.

Sylvia O’Brien, Soprano 


Irish soprano Sylvia O’Brien has impressed audiences in opera, oratorio and chamber music.   She is a regular guest with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra and the Orchestra of St.Cecilia and has performed with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the German NDR and the Dutch Magogo Chamber Orchestra.   Collaborations include the Solstice Quartet, Triocca and the Syrius Trio and the Grieg Piano Trio.  Recent highlights include Michel van der Aa’s Here (in Cirlces) with the Crash Ensemble De Staat by Louis Andriessen with the RTE Concert Orchestra Dublin, Les Nuits d’Ete with Zuid-Hollands Symfonie Orkest and Goois Symfonie Orkest, Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasileiras No 5 with the Sweelinck Orkest at Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Seóirse Bodley’s Mignon and the Harper, Shostakovich’s Symphony No 14 with the Magogo Chamber Orchestra in Tilburg, The Netherlands, St John Passion (Bach) on tour with the Irish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Stephen Layton, Morton Feldman’s Neither with both RTE Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stefan Asbury and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dmitry Slobodenyuk, Nono’s Il Canto Sospeso with the Orchestra Sinfonica e Coro Sinfonico di Milano Giuseppe Verdi conducted by Francesco Maria Colombo, De Staat with the RTE Concert Orchestra conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw, and the Verdi Requiem with the Ulster Orchestra conducted by David Milne. She performs regularly with pianist Hanna Shybayeva. Opera roles include Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro), Konstanze (Die Entfuhrung), Jenufa (Jenufa), Governess (The Turn of the Screw).
