SITUATED IN THE HEART OF GREYSTONES TOWN, THE WHALE THEATRE IS A BEAUTIFULLY REFURBISHED INTIMATE THEATRE WITH A UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE AND A DIVERSE PROGRAMME OF EVENTS INCLUDING LIVE THEATRE, MUSIC, COMEDY, SCREENINGS AND SPOKEN WORD.

The Whale Theatre opened in September 2017 after the previously unfinished project was purchased in 2014 and re-developed by Ross McParland, the owner and founder. Renovating the entire project with great care, Ross commissioned renowned Wicklow designer, Sharon Ryle to advise on creating an intimate venue serving as a multipurpose theatre, the results of which have been widely acclaimed.

Since opening, the Whale Theatre has hosted more than 400 performances and sold over 30,000 tickets. The theatre has presented a huge range of performances, featuring artists from all over the world and attracting audiences in their thousands. In addition to world-class performances of music, theatre, dance, comedy and film, there have been educational workshops, free family events, micro- festivals and schools’ events. The theatre is also the current home and sponsor of Greystones Players, Making Waves Youth Theatre and Greystones Film Club
The programme boasts an eclectic mix of performances with local artists sharing the same stage as renowned artists including Chris de Burgh, Hothouse Flowers, Russell Brand, Rebecca Storm, David Kitt, Paddy Casey, Phelim Drew, David O’ Doherty and many more. The Whale Theatre also presents "Outdoor Movies @The Cove", which has allowed it to reach new audiences, enabling people of all ages to share in a truly unique community event. There are also regular live screenings from the Met Opera, National Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet with the annual Culture Night offering a free night of culture and entertainment for all ages.

The theatre is nestled within the award-winning Theatre Lane development, Greystones’ bustling creative quarter. Also given a new lease of life at the attentive hands of owner Ross McParland, Theatre Lane boasts an eclectic mix of independent, boutique retail units as well as Greystones Studios and Theatre Lane Lofts.
