NAUGHTY BY NATURE

Eric Lalor on the background to his new show, Lol’er By Nature, coming to The Whale on Friday, March 14th.

I’m out on the road with my new solo show, Lol’er By Nature. It’s a little nod to my surname, Lalor, and hopefully not a suggestion that I will be the only one LOL’ing!

Since starting comedy by appearing on Des Bishop’s Joy in the Hood way back in the day, I have absolutely loved performing all over the country and further afield too. I’ve done all the major comedy festivals, I’ve taken a show to Edinburgh, won Irish Comedian of The Year twice, and even ventured into acting. Some people will know me as the bad boy, Cathal Spillane, from Fair City, but please don’t hold that against me!

Recently it was the first anniversary of the podcast I do with fellow Ballymun comedian, Willa White. It’s Called You Must Be Jokin’ and it has already picked up an award for Best Podcast at the Digital Media Awards.

Despite all this, my first love is standup comedy and on stage is where I feel at home. The pandemic affected live entertainment in a big way, and there were times I thought I’d never get to stand on a stage again.

I’ve been writing this show since then, and it comes from a place of joy, a sense of relief almost, that I will never take performing to a live audience for granted again.

Lol’er By Nature is a show about my life since the time Corona was a bad word. I performed my biggest ever solo show in the Liberty Hall Theatre last year and the reaction was so good, I have decided that more people should see it.

Hopefully the good folks of Greystones will join me in the glorious Whale Theatre on March 16th for a night of all the craic!
