NOTHING QUITE LIKE A DAME

Karl Dawson on how his Dame Stuffy alter ego’s new show blossomed

The idea of incorporating a live band into my show has been something I’ve wanted to do for years.

It’s all about bringing comedy back to the days of cabaret, blending stand-up with live music and fabulous songs to recreate that old-school cabaret comedy club vibe.

I take inspiration from legends like Dame Edna, Lily Savage, and Joan Rivers, who were rarely seen without a full orchestra behind them – though I’m not quite at orchestra level just yet!

I first began performing as Dame Stuffy about 14 years ago in panto. Over time, I realised that people need laughter more than just once a year, so I decided to create my own show featuring the character, with sketches, songs, and stand-up.

The show was a success and led to more performances as the years went on. I’ve evolved from a traditional panto dame into more of a Lily Savage figure, as Dame Stuffy has become such a well-loved character with a real personality, family, and backstory – much like Lily or Dame Edna.

I’m truly grateful for the continued support and can’t wait to bring this fabulous show to Greystones on December 27th.

Nice. You can grab your ticket for Dame Stuffy’s Christmas Comedy Cabaret here: https://whaletheatre.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/873648875/events/128564234
