Going Back To Her Roots

Ahead of her February 9th return, NIAMH REGAN charts her formative years getting lost in music…

So, my background is in traditional Irish music.

I grew up learning tunes, going to sessions, festivals and fleadhs for as long as I can remember. I then went on to indulge in this love by studying music in the University of Limerick.

Composition and improvisation has always been something I enjoyed from an early age so it just made sense when my angsty teenage self turned to songwriting.

I experimented with ballad structures and storytelling through songs for years until I felt I found my own approach and a path towards my own sound.

But yes, I’ve learned a lot about my musical delivery, expression and appreciation from traditional music…
