CHILD’S PLAY

The acclaimed French drama Petite Maman comes to Greystones…

Emerging out of hibernation with last month’s bittersweet Scottish comedy Limbo, the Greystones Film Club are tugging at your heartstrings for April’s new release.

Turning up on many a film critic’s Top 10 for 2021, French director Céline Sciamma (Portrait Of A Lady) tackles grief with heartbreaking tenderness in Petite Maman (France/PG/72mins).

The plot has 8-year-old Nelly struggling to overcome the loss of her grandmother when, helping clean out her mum’s childhood home, she meets a girl her own age building a tree house in the nearby woods.

Just how close the girls become reflects something deeper than mere friendship though…

Let’s just say, be sure to bring a hanky. And a friend to lean on.
