Way back in March 2020, we sadly had to close our doors as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and we really didn’t know when we would be able to open them again. During the almost 6 month long closure, we launched our Poets Wall campaign which brightened up the town with beautiful poetry and Greystones Players kept us entertained with their video series “Lockdown InterActs”. But nothing can replace a real, live performance! We said we’d be back after the interval…so here we are and we’re ready to get back on stage for the Second Act!
We’re thrilled to announce that we will be reopening from Friday 4th September with a programme of socially distanced shows from performers including comedian Alison Spittle, acclaimed classical guitarist Redmond O’ Toole, the Degani Trio and energetic contemporary Irish duo, Lucia & Maria. We will also be taking part in this year’s Culture Night activities, with further details to be announced soon!
We have assembled a modest programme for September, with some of our rescheduled shows now also on sale for dates throughout the rest of the year and into 2021. Considering how quickly the current situation is changing, we will be announcing additional events on a monthly basis, so stay tuned for more exciting events and performances.
The safety of our audiences, staff and performers remains our primary concern and we have developed our own “Second Act Charter”, which will help us to suppress the spread of Covid-19 and create a safe, welcoming and comfortable space.Things will be a little different, but we’re all still here and it will be the same smiling faces looking after you from behind our face masks!
Our capacity has been reduced to accommodate social distancing, our performances will be shorter and most shows won’t have intervals. Face masks will also be mandatory and movement will be restricted throughout the theatre. We have introduced an enhanced cleaning routine and we’re using a high-tech electrostatic disinfectant sprayer to ensure all areas of the venue are thoroughly disinfected.
We have also signed up to Fáilte Ireland’s Covid-19 Safety Charter and our full-time staff have already completed the Infection Prevention Control for Tourism Businesses course. Part-time staff will also complete this course as well as in-house training before we reopen.
