A HARVEST FOR THE WORLD

It’s an ambitious project, and no mistake, calling on all of the good people of Ireland for their thoughts on how to make this a better world for future  generations.

Having started in 2017, and due to wrap up in 2020, Concern Worldwide have been hosting a series of free World Café gatherings around this fair isle, where treats, cuppas and thoughts can flow freely as part of one big Irish stream of conscientiousness.

And now it’s the turn of the most intelligent, insightful, caring & sharing port in the country, the World Café opening its doors at The Whale on Thursday, May 9th, with three pressing questions – and those free treats – for Greystonians to chew upon. And all in the name of the United Nations Global Goals.

Akin to Speed Dating, only for people desperate to heal this planet as opposed to just plain desperate, the idea is simple. Four or five people gather at a table, cuppa and cake in hand, and bring their ideas together, which they can jot down on the paper tablecloth. After 15 or 20 minutes, they each move on to a second table, mixing, mulling and munching with each new coven.

The questions up for discussion are, broadly put, what you feel the good, the bad and the ugly about Greystones happens to be; how best to create safe, inclusive and sustainable communities, and to try and jump forward to 2030; and what would you hope the Irish government, civil society and little old us might have convinced the UN to adopt for those 17 Global Goals.

With Greystones Tidy Towns already on board, and Bear Paw providing all those free treats for our Project Us love-in, this is an opportunity for the townsfolk to put our heads together and contribute to the United Nation’s plans and hopes for not just Planet Éire but Planet Earth itself.

Happening on Thursday, May 9th, at 7.30pm in The Whale, come on down to The Whale and find out what this new World Café culture is all about…
