IS AIRPLANE THE FUNNIEST FILM OF ALL TIME…?

You know, there’s a very good chance it might just be, this 1980 disaster spoof – inspired, almost scene-for-scene, by the 1957 flick, Zero Hour! – hitting the no.1 spot in many a comedy poll over the years.

In England, the Zucker brothers’ comic masterpiece was voted no.1 in Empire’s 50 Funniest Comedies Ever and was only pipped at the poll by Monty Python’s Life Of Brian in Channel 4 survey, whilst in America, the film ranked sixth on Bravo’s 100 Funniest Movies.

And there’s every chance that watching Airplane! on a beach, at night, in Greystones, with a ginger beer or two, might just tip it over from the surreally silly into the realm of the simply sublime.

Yep, we couldn’t have chosen a finer films to laugh away the closing month of a wonderful Greystones summer for our annual Outdoor Cinema Club screenings, with Leslie Nielsen leading the pack of fools that also includes Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty and one very merry Lloyd Bridges.

Full of crackin’ one-liner and zany, slapstick antics, Airplane! will have you on the floor – or, you know, the sand, to be more precise – when it screens down at The Cove on Saturday, August 11th, at 10pm. And tickets are just €5. If you hurry, you might even be able to grab one…
