Adjacent Meridian Point,
What is it about the Irish and storytelling? Didn’t the whole world just gather around open fires at night, with no TV, no wifi, not even a copy of Woman’s Way, to keep them entertained?
Somehow, Ireland just streaked ahead of their neighbours when it came to the fine art of weaving a tale or two around that flickering light. And then, most likely, launching into a raucous ballad or two, just to help that, eh, hot chocolate go down a little bit smoother.
It’s this fine art that Dry Rain founder Lorraine O’Brien is celebrating in To Shorten The Road, coming to The Whale on Saturday, July 7th. Aided and abetted in her mission Emma O’Brien and Mick Heffernan, O’Brien plays Peg Meg Seanchai, a character who acts as a spark for those old fireside evenings of tall tales, naughty ballads, love poems and bad dancing.
